World ( The cow news digital ) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly defended the legitimacy of his government while addressing the National Assembly, stating that if the 2018 general elections are considered fair, then the current government must also be accepted as legitimate.

During his speech in the National Assembly of Pakistan, the prime minister also highlighted what he described as a major diplomatic achievement involving Iran and the United States. He said that a landmark agreement between the two countries was reached in Switzerland under Pakistan’s mediation, leading to a ceasefire between Iran and the United States.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that under the agreement, technical negotiations will continue over the next 60 days in line with a memorandum of understanding. He expressed confidence that both countries would move toward a permanent international peace agreement within this timeframe. He further claimed that international media outlets had widely praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating the breakthrough.

The prime minister also mentioned that the President of Iran is currently visiting Pakistan, where discussions will be held to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. He emphasized that the present occasion was not appropriate for political disputes, criticizing the opposition for questioning the legitimacy of his government.

Responding to criticism from opposition members, Shehbaz Sharif rejected claims that his administration was formed through illegitimate means. He argued that the same scrutiny applied to the 2018 general elections should be applied to all electoral processes.

He questioned whether the 2018 elections involved manipulation, alleging irregularities and demanding an impartial investigation into both the 2018 elections and the most recent electoral process. According to him, a transparent inquiry would reveal the truth behind the formation of governments in both periods.

The prime minister remarked that if the 2018 government is considered lawful, then the current government must also be viewed in the same manner. He added that investigations into electoral processes should be conducted without bias, warning that such inquiries could reveal far-reaching political consequences.

The speech comes amid ongoing political tensions in Pakistan, where debates over electoral transparency and government legitimacy continue to dominate parliamentary discourse. Analysts note that such statements reflect deep political polarization, even as the government highlights diplomatic developments on the international stage.
