Iran(The COW News Digital)Iran has announced that its ongoing nuclear negotiations with the United States have been suspended for the time being following two rounds of talks held in Muscat under the mediation of Oman.
According to Iran’s state-run news agency, the latest round of discussions between Iranian and American delegations concluded on Thursday, with no immediate agreement on the next phase of talks. The negotiations were hosted by Oman, which has traditionally played a mediating role between Tehran and Washington during periods of diplomatic engagement.
The Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while the US side was headed by a special envoy appointed by former President Donald Trump for Middle East affairs. Officials from both sides participated in two separate negotiation sessions during the day.
Speaking to the media after the conclusion of talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that successful diplomacy requires an atmosphere free from pressure and threats. He stated that Iran clearly conveyed this position during the negotiations and expects it to be respected if the dialogue is to continue.
“For any negotiation to succeed, it is essential to avoid coercion and intimidation,” Araghchi said, adding that Iran had made its stance clear and now awaits a practical response from the other side.
Despite the suspension, the Iranian foreign minister described the discussions as constructive, noting that the talks were held in a positive environment. He said both delegations exchanged views and addressed mutual concerns related to the nuclear issue and broader regional matters.
Araghchi expressed cautious optimism, stating that if the same constructive approach is maintained, it may be possible to reach a positive framework regarding nuclear negotiations. However, he refrained from providing a timeline for any potential breakthrough.
The Iranian foreign minister further noted that the date for the next round of talks would be finalized after consultations with Omani officials and his counterpart. He confirmed that Oman remains committed to facilitating dialogue between the two sides.
The suspension of talks highlights the ongoing challenges facing US-Iran relations, particularly amid longstanding disagreements over sanctions, nuclear commitments, and regional security. While both sides have signaled willingness to engage, progress remains fragile and heavily dependent on mutual trust and diplomatic flexibility.
Observers say the outcome of future talks will depend largely on whether both parties can move beyond pressure-based tactics and focus on confidence-building measures to revive meaningful negotiations.
