Tehran – December 16, 2025: Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi has been hospitalized for the second time, just three days after her arrest. The Narges Mohammadi Foundation reported that her physical condition appeared deteriorated during a recent phone call, raising serious concerns about her health.
Civil society activists, including renowned filmmaker Jafar Panahi, have called for the immediate and unconditional release of Mohammadi and other activists detained last Friday. The arrests occurred during a memorial event in Mashhad honoring the late lawyer Khosrow Ali Kordi, whose body was discovered earlier this month.

According to Hassan Hemmatifar, Mashhad prosecutor, a total of 38 individuals were detained during the ceremony. Among them were Narges Mohammadi and prominent activist Sepideh Qolian. Khosrow Ali Kordi’s brother, Javad, was also arrested later that same day.
Narges Mohammadi has spent much of the past decade alternating between imprisonment and temporary releases. She was granted medical furlough in December 2024, allowing her temporary release from prison for health reasons. Her recent re-arrest and subsequent hospitalizations have drawn widespread attention from international human rights organizations, which have expressed concern about her well-being and the conditions of her detention.
