World ( The cow news digital ) Former US President Barack Obama has sharply criticized President Donald Trump over his handling of Iran, claiming that his own administration managed to contain Tehran’s nuclear ambitions without resorting to military conflict.
In a recent interview, Obama stated that his administration successfully persuaded Iran to give up 97 percent of its enriched uranium under the landmark nuclear agreement negotiated during his presidency. He emphasized that the diplomatic strategy achieved major security objectives without firing a single missile or triggering instability in the Middle East.
“There is no doubt that it was handled effectively,” Obama said, adding that the agreement avoided large-scale violence, prevented further bloodshed, and ensured that critical trade routes such as the Strait of Hormuz remained open.
The former president also argued that the objectives behind Trump’s aggressive Iran policy and military escalation were ultimately not achieved. Obama suggested that diplomacy and international cooperation had proven more effective than confrontation and threats of force.
His remarks came days after Trump launched a fresh attack on Obama through a statement posted on Truth Social. The US president accused Obama of adopting a soft approach toward Iran and claimed that Tehran benefited significantly during the Obama administration.
Trump alleged that Iran regained economic strength and political stability because of policies introduced during Obama’s tenure. He also repeated long-standing claims that billions of dollars, including approximately $1.7 billion in cash, were transferred to Tehran during the implementation of the nuclear agreement.
According to Trump, the financial relief provided under the deal gave Iran unprecedented resources and strengthened its regional influence. He described Obama as a “weak and naïve” leader who allowed Tehran to gain strategic advantages over Washington.
The exchange highlights the continuing political divide in the United States over the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). While Obama and his allies maintain that the agreement successfully limited Iran’s nuclear capabilities through diplomacy, Trump and Republican supporters have consistently argued that the deal empowered Tehran financially and politically.
The debate over Iran policy remains a major issue in US foreign affairs, particularly amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East and concerns surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program.
