World ( The cow news digital ) Afghan-born mountaineer Zakia River Ahmed has made history by becoming the first Afghan woman to successfully summit Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,848 meters. Her achievement marks a significant milestone in Afghanistan’s mountaineering history and has drawn international attention.

According to reports, Zakia reached the summit of Mount Everest early in the morning at approximately 7:20 AM local time. Her successful climb places her among a very small group of Afghan climbers who have ever conquered the world’s tallest mountain.

Originally from Ghazni province in Afghanistan, Zakia Ahmed had relocated to Australia in recent years due to the prevailing situation in her home country. She completed the expedition using Australian travel documentation, which allowed her to obtain the necessary permits for the climb.

Her achievement is being widely celebrated as a symbol of resilience and determination, particularly for Afghan women facing limited opportunities in sports and adventure activities. Mountaineering experts have described her summit as a historic breakthrough that could inspire a new generation of climbers from the region.

Everest, located in the Himalayas on the border of Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, remains one of the most challenging peaks in the world due to extreme weather conditions, low oxygen levels, and difficult terrain. Each year, only a limited number of climbers successfully reach its summit.

In a parallel development, Pakistani climber Salman Ateeq also successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest on the same day. According to reports, he reached the peak at 11:49 AM and became the 14th Pakistani mountaineer to achieve this feat. Ateeq hails from Islamabad and has been part of several high-altitude expeditions.

Both achievements have been recognized within the international mountaineering community as notable contributions from South Asian climbers, highlighting growing participation from the region in extreme adventure sports.
