Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it carried out coordinated retaliatory strikes targeting United States military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait, prompting heightened security alerts across the Gulf region and Iraq.
In an official statement, the IRGC said its naval and aerospace forces launched a joint operation in response to what it described as recent American military actions on Iranian coastal areas. The statement claimed that US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait were targeted using a combination of missiles and drones.
The IRGC warned that any further American military activity would be met with an even stronger and more widespread response. Iranian officials framed the operation as a direct act of retaliation, emphasizing that the country would not tolerate continued strikes on its territory or interests.
The announcement comes amid an already volatile regional environment, where military tensions have been rising between Tehran and Washington. Iranian media earlier reported claims that US warplanes attempted to target the Sirk region in the Persian Gulf, but were allegedly forced to retreat due to Iranian air defense systems. These claims, however, have not been independently verified.
Following the reported strikes, Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior confirmed that security sirens were activated across parts of the country. Authorities did not immediately release further details but urged the public to follow official safety instructions as precautionary measures were put in place.
In Kuwait, military officials stated that air defense systems were activated in response to possible incoming missile and drone threats. Explosions heard in certain areas were attributed to defensive countermeasures, according to initial statements from security sources. Residents were advised to remain calm and adhere to government guidance.
Meanwhile, in Iraq, unusually strict security measures were implemented in the capital city of Baghdad. The heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses government buildings and foreign diplomatic missions, was placed under partial lockdown. Reports indicated the deployment of special forces, armored vehicles, and tanks in the area amid fears of potential spillover from regional tensions.

Some unconfirmed reports also suggested arrests of senior figures in Iraq, though authorities have not issued any official confirmation regarding such developments.
The situation remains fluid, with multiple governments in the region on high alert as they monitor potential further escalation. Analysts warn that continued retaliatory actions could widen the conflict and destabilize an already fragile security landscape across the Gulf.
