National ( The cow news digital ) Federal Minister and MQM-Pakistan leader Mustafa Kamal has alleged that party chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui personally prevented former Karachi mayor Wasim Akhtar from becoming the Governor of Sindh, intensifying public differences within the party’s senior leadership.

Addressing a general workers’ convention, Kamal said MQM-Pakistan was committed to pursuing constitutional reforms aimed at transforming Pakistan’s governance model. He stated that the party seeks to ensure the transfer of powers and financial resources to the grassroots level through constitutional means, arguing that such reforms are essential for the country’s long-term stability.

Kamal reiterated that MQM-Pakistan believes in the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law, urging party workers to continue their political struggle within the legal and democratic framework.

Criticizing the Sindh government, the federal minister claimed that the provincial administration had received Rs22 trillion from the federal government over the past 18 years but had failed to provide basic civic services to Karachi, Hyderabad, and other urban areas. He announced that MQM-Pakistan would launch a protest movement from July 26 to demand greater rights and improved governance for urban Sindh.

During his speech, Kamal also addressed speculation surrounding Wasim Akhtar’s absence from party activities. He said there was a misconception that Akhtar had personal differences with him, insisting that no such dispute existed. Instead, he claimed that Akhtar’s disagreements were with MQM chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

The minister further alleged that Siddiqui had privately admitted to him that Akhtar once sought the party’s support to become Governor of Sindh. According to Kamal, Siddiqui, who was serving as the party convener at the time, prepared a nomination letter and accompanied Akhtar to meet the prime minister.

Kamal claimed that although the nomination letter recommending Akhtar for the governorship was formally presented during the meeting, Siddiqui later privately requested the prime minister not to act on the recommendation after the meeting had concluded.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has not publicly responded to Kamal’s claims. The remarks come amid renewed debate over internal dynamics within MQM-Pakistan as the party prepares for its upcoming political campaign in Sindh.
