National ( The cow news digital ) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir played a significant behind-the-scenes role in facilitating communication between Iran and the United States, adding that diplomatic efforts are progressing in the right direction.
Speaking during an official visit to Beijing, the prime minister made these remarks at a high-level reception hosted in the Great Hall of the People. He was received warmly by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, where a formal guard of honour was also presented by the Chinese armed forces.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote regional peace, stating that Islamabad has consistently supported dialogue and diplomacy amid rising tensions in the Middle East. He noted that Pakistan has played a “sincere and constructive” role in encouraging communication between Tehran and Washington.
He specifically praised Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying that the military leadership had engaged in important diplomatic interactions and contributed to establishing contact between Iranian and American leadership. According to the prime minister, these efforts have helped move discussions in a “positive direction,” although he did not provide further operational details.
The prime minister also emphasized that Pakistan and China are marking 75 years of diplomatic relations, calling the partnership a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He expressed gratitude to Chinese leadership, particularly President Xi Jinping, for supporting Pakistan’s efforts toward regional stability and peacebuilding.
During his speech, Shehbaz Sharif noted that the world is currently passing through a sensitive geopolitical phase, particularly in the Gulf region, where tensions remain high. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working with global partners to de-escalate conflicts and promote dialogue.
On the Chinese side, Premier Li Qiang reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Pakistan. He praised Pakistan’s efforts in maintaining coordination on shared interests and contributing positively to regional stability.
He further stated that President Xi Jinping is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where both sides will discuss strategic cooperation, economic ties, and future development projects aimed at deepening the long-standing partnership.
The visit underscores Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with major global powers at a time of heightened regional uncertainty, with Islamabad positioning itself as an active supporter of conflict resolution through dialogue.
