Delhi(The COW News Digital)A recent report by US-based research group India Hate Lab has revealed a 13 percent increase in hate incidents targeting Muslims and other minority communities in India.

According to the report, a total of 1,318 hate-related incidents were recorded in 2025, up from 1,165 in 2024 and showing a clear upward trend from previous years. The majority of these incidents occurred in states governed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP party.

The report also highlighted a spike in hate events during the period of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, from April 22 to May 7, when 100 such incidents were recorded. These findings point to a correlation between geopolitical tensions and domestic minority-targeted violence.

International human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, were cited in the report, emphasizing that under Modi’s government, harassment and hate crimes against minorities have significantly increased. Experts note that these incidents range from verbal abuse and threats to physical attacks, reflecting a worrying rise in communal intolerance.

The research underscores the growing challenges faced by India’s minority communities, with civil society and rights groups urging stronger government measures to prevent discrimination, ensure accountability, and protect vulnerable populations.

Human rights observers warn that unchecked hate incidents can deepen social divides and fuel further violence, making policy interventions and strict enforcement of anti-discrimination laws crucial. The report recommends monitoring hate crimes systematically and providing support networks for affected communities.

The data also draws attention to the role of political rhetoric and communal polarization in exacerbating tensions, emphasizing the need for inclusive governance to safeguard the rights of all citizens.

As India continues to navigate internal social and religious tensions, international and local observers stress the importance of immediate action to curb hate incidents and promote social cohesion.
