The Israeli military claimed that Iran launched a large-scale missile attack on the country. While most of the missiles and drones were intercepted or destroyed, some did manage to penetrate defenses, hitting areas in Tel Aviv and Beit Shemesh, a city located west of Jerusalem.
Debris from the attack also fell in the occupied West Bank, near the northern city of Qalqilya. It remains unclear whether the fragments were from a rocket or an intercepted missile, but they landed away from an Israeli settlement and closer to Palestinian areas.
Israel’s defense systems are designed to protect Israelis, including those living in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, but offer no protection to Palestinians. The missile may have been diverted by Israel’s defense systems, causing it to land in Palestinian territory. Earlier on Saturday morning, a Palestinian was injured in Beit Sahour, a town in the southern West Bank.
