Washington(The COW News Digital)Former US President Donald Trump has once again asserted that the United States is the only country capable of deterring both China and Russia, claiming that without Washington’s leadership, NATO would be largely ineffective.
In a statement shared on social media, Trump argued that Russia and China fear and respect only the United States, particularly what he described as the “rebuilt America” under his leadership. He maintained that NATO’s strength and relevance depend entirely on US involvement, suggesting that the alliance would hold little significance for Moscow and Beijing if the United States were not a central part of it.
Trump reiterated his long-standing criticism of NATO member states, claiming that before his tenure, many alliance members were failing to meet their defense spending obligations. According to Trump, he pressured NATO countries to significantly increase their military budgets, pushing them toward spending up to five percent of their gross domestic product on defense. He stated that, as a result of this pressure, several member states are now making payments more rapidly.

The former president also revived his claim of having helped end or de-escalate eight major conflicts during his time in office, arguing that these efforts saved millions of lives. He referenced Norway, a NATO member, noting that despite his peace-related claims, the country did not nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump added that such recognition was unimportant to him, emphasizing instead what he described as tangible outcomes of his actions.
Expressing skepticism about NATO’s commitment to the United States, Trump said he was uncertain whether the alliance would come to America’s aid in a moment of need. Nevertheless, he claimed that the US would continue to stand by NATO regardless of whether the alliance reciprocated that support.
Trump also made a strong assertion regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stating that without his intervention, Russia would have already taken control of the entire country. While he did not provide details on how such intervention prevented this outcome, the claim aligns with his broader narrative that his leadership helped restrain global conflicts.
These remarks come amid ongoing debates in the United States and Europe over NATO’s future, defense spending responsibilities, and the broader balance of power involving Russia and China. Trump’s comments are likely to reignite discussions over America’s role in global security and the extent to which alliances depend on US leadership.
